Marrying a vampire definitely doesn’t fit into Jessica Packwood’s senior year ‘get-a-life’ plan “The first time I saw him, a heavy, grey fog clung to the cornfields, tails of mist slithering between the dying stalks He was tall and wearing a long, dark coat, almost a cloak. Someone tall, dark and mysterious. Someone she is drawn to and repelled by. As Jessica tries to sift through her confused adolescent feelings, the reason for the stranger’s appearance is revealed. Jessica isn’t who she thought she was, and Lucius is the man to whom she was betrothed at birth, in a country far away, and to an inheritance she is too bewildered and frightened to claim. Can Jessica turn away from everything she though she was and become the persons her destiny says she should be? Beth Fantaskey grew up in the small town of Montoursville, Pennsylvania, and later moved to the edge of Amish country, near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She has a master’s degree in journalism, and has written everything from speeches to newsletters, articles to short fiction.
Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side (Jessica’s Guide Series #1)
By Beth Fantaskey. He was standing under a massive beech tree across the road from me, his arms crossed over his chest. But it was obvious that he was tall and wearing a long, dark coat, almost like a cloak. My chest clenched, and I swallowed hard. Who stands under a tree at the crack of dawn, in the middle of nowhere, wearing a black cloak?
But no, I had to “share the twilight” to save the environment. When I’m abducted by the menacing guy like the tree, Dad will probably insist my face only appear on recycled milk cartons. In the alone ebook second I wasted being angry at my father, the stranger really did move in my direction, stepping out from under the tree, and I could have sworn? I could have sworn I heard him say, “Jessica. Or maybe I was hearing things, because the word was drowned out by the sound of tires hissing on wet pavement, grinding gears, and the whoosh of the doors as the driver, old Mr.
Dilly, swung them open for me. Wonderful, wonderful bus number I’d never been so happy to climb on board. With his usual grunted “Mornin, Jess,” Mr. Dilly put the bus in gear, and I read down the twilight, searching for an empty seat or a friendly face among the half-groggy riders. It sucked sometimes, living in rural Pennsylvania.
Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side: Brain candy for teen girls
Antanasia Dragomir, renamed Jessica Packwood by her adopted parents, is a down-to-earth farm girl with a talent for mathematics and a resolute disdain for all things supernatural. The last thing she wanted was to find out that her birth parents were vampires, and that her vampire betrothed has come to claim her. Lucius Vladescu is handsome, arrogant, and determined to make her accept her heritage and marry him – or risk reigniting the feud which has been going on between their clans for generations.

Author Beth Fantaskey injects a little humor into the vampire romance genre with this critically acclaimed debut novel. High school senior Jessica Packwood is a down-to-earth mathlete who’s not sure what her future holds. What she definitely doesn’t see coming is foreign exchange student-and vampire-Lucius Vladescu showing up at her door. According to Lucius, Jessica is actually vampire royalty, and they’ve been betrothed to one another since infancy.
Katherine Kellgren brings teenaged Jessica to life with convincing incredulity when she discovers that the new Romanian exchange student thinks she’s his betrothed from the “old country”–and a vampire like him! When the most popular girls in school start to fawn over him, she makes us believe Jessica’s slow, thoughtful second look.
Jeff Woodman voices Lucius, the handsome vampire, with a dramatic edge that’s perfectly in keeping with his personality. But Woodman also makes listeners understand Lucius’s wonder, and then flat-out amazement, as he discovers all the freedoms available to the modern American teen. See below. She has an independent streak that was gratifying to this reader. The climax and ending, reminiscent of a Beauty and the Beast tale, moved me more than I expected them to. Lucius is a huge jerk about this, treating both girls badly. A female vampire has to be bitten by a male vampire before her fangs will emerge. January 18th, Kelly is most fond of fantasy set in a historical setting a la Jo Graham or in a setting that echoes a real historical period a la George RR Martin and Jacqueline Carey.

Jessica’s Guide to Dating on the Dark Side
Jessica evolves nicely with each new shocking revelation, becoming, over the course of the novel, an intriguing and strong protagonist. The romance sizzles, the plot develops ingeniously and suspensefully, and the satire sings. Fantaskey sustains a wholly believable contemporary teen world against a backdrop of vampire romance–Jessica and her friends look and talk like real teens, and her wry sense of humor is delightful, especially when describing an archrival who has her eye on Lucius.
Girls obsessed with vampires and romance will welcome this clever, amusing take on teen vamps in love.

Remember Me. This was a really great read! I believe that craze is still going on now However, I do think that the book was a bit fast pace, which caused it to lack a bit of detail, but not enough to make someone lose interest in the story. The main character doesn’t really believe too much in herself or who she is “destined” to be, which becomes a bit annoying as you go farther into the book, but she does gain some courage near the latter quarter of the book.
The ending was really great!! Probably my favorite part of the whole book! Definitely read it if you’re a fan of vampire novels, or fiction in general! Lucius was great! I love how he acted threatening and scary or tried but you could really see that he cared for Jessica the whole book! I could completely understand Jessica’s feelings when she finds out she is a European Vampire Princess!
Instead of being a normal teenager, she is meant to stop a Vampire war. It turns her life around and she has to learn to deal with everything that is thrown at her.

I enjoyed reading this book, but I think I have to agree with Einmyria on the fact that Lucius was a jerk who did not deserve Jessica’s love. She can do SO much better then him. Otherwise I disagree with what Einmyria wrote sorry, Einmyria. I really liked this book.

She learns however when a vampire prince comes into her life as a foreign exchange student. ChrisWeir Feb 2, This book is so great because it has so many elements to it. It has humor; Jessica is a typical teenager and sometimes her actions are too funny because she’s so dramatic.
Lucius also brings humor in the way he sees American customs and the things teenagers say and do. There were also sad parts, I really felt for Jessica and Lucius, trapped in an arranged marriage even though they come from such different worlds. This is so fun and the narrators did a fabulous job! AlyP59 Apr 25, This is the first book in the Jessica duology and it was an uneven read.
I really loved the first half of the book; it was very fun and heartfelt. The second half gets much more serious and just didn’t have the charm of the first part of the book. It almost felt like the book was written by two different people. I listened to this on audiobook and it was okay.
